GLORIA CHENG, pianist

One of the most charismatic and eloquent performers of contemporary music, Gloria Cheng is lauded for her “commanding technique, color and imagination” (The New York Times). She has dozens of premieres and dedications to her credit from composers including John Adams, Pierre Boulez, Terry Riley, and Esa-Pekka Salonen, and has collaborated with many of the leading composers of our time: Thomas Adès, Henry Brant, Earle Brown, Elliott Carter, George Crumb, John Harbison, William Kraft, György Ligeti, Witold Lutoslawski, Steve Reich, and Steven Stucky.

BILJANA URBAN, pianist

Strongly influenced by her work with Elisso Virsaladze, Tatiana Nikolaeva, and Eugen Indjic, Croatian pianist Biljana Urban has appeared in such major venues as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Royal Monnaie Théâtre in Brussels, and Cité des Arts in Paris. In April 2010 she released a critically acclaimed recording of the piano works by her Czech-born grandfather, Jan Urban, on the Naxos label. This recital is the culmination of Biljana Urban’s one-week residency at California State University, Fresno, during which she will present a series of lectures and master classes.
